Abstract

Software defined networks (SDN) have modified the way of designing and operating data networks. In the SDN, the software-based applications are the ones that determine the network behavior, modifying its status according to its needs.

In this article, the applications SDN are classified, the existing main ways to create them are shown, and the tools used for that purpose are proposed. Likewise, the author makes reference to some crucial aspects to the development of SDN applications, which guide the programmers in the process of creation of such applications and selection of tools for their development.
