Today communications scenario is involved in the accelerated convergence of all existing and future applications towards data networking architectures. TCP/IP architecture and its different protocols take a preferential place in the rest of the standards. The accelerated growing of Internet services and the scarcity of IP address have required the introduction and deployment of a new version of the Interet Protocol. Given the complexity of these new challenges and predicting a long period of coexistence of IPv6 and IPv4, Cuba is located in the transition from traditional voice service based on TDM to NGN architecture, taking advantages of the convergence and trends of the industry to increase the support of IP-based technologies. This article aims at discovering our strengths, weaknesses, and the assumed challenge of this transition at a network level; as a result, a specific proposal for the transition to IPv6 of NGN in Cuba is exposed.
