Wireless Communications: OFDM (First Part)
Keywords:
Wireless Communications, OFDM, Radiocommunications, WLANsAbstract
WLANs use has been widely extended because they do not need an installation license. Besides, these networks are simpler than the cabled ones and allow flexibility. Some of the wireless technology problems — limited bandwidth, interference and information security — are getting behind. The 802.11a standard together with the use of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing permits high speeds and has demonstrated to be very effective in avoiding multipath fading. This article, in its first part, analyzes the feasibility to apply 802.11a standard with OFDM technique for WLANs by taking into account specifications of the standard, OFDM technology, variants and coding alternatives among other issues.
