Evolution of Transport Networks based on SDH

Abstract

This article points out the evolution of transport networks based on SDH to face the increasing demand and diversity of broadband services. Budgets cuts which stand in the way of massive implementation towards other technologies, short time of exploitation of the modern technique installed and low costs of new services are some of the problems presented. Finally, major features of data and transport network, SDH evolution and a description of the different protocols applied in SDH-NG which help to improve the interrelation among data networks and to keep its presence without large technological and financial changes are outlined.
