Abstract

In terms of evolution trends, main telecommunications companies move forward NGN networks. This paper spells out some issues about the progress of signalling systems and the way PSTN systems can be interconnected to other kind of systems and networks using IP. It refers to the Cuban network which was formerly based on analogue technology and now it is evolving to a digital system; nevertheless, both technologies coexist since this process has not covered all areas yet. Different signalling protocols used for interconnecting telephone exchanges are analyzed; and some alternatives, main problems and possible solutions are identified as well.
