Abstract

This article, derived from the research seminar developed within the framework of the scientific exchange between the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Pre-University Vocational Institute of Exact Sciences and ETECSA, analyzes the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the telecommunications sector. Through a documentary review and a multiple case study, four structural challenges of the pre-AI era were identified: manual management of exponential data traffic, saturation of customer service centers, reactive infrastructure maintenance, and signature-based cybersecurity. AI-enabled solutions are presented, such as self-optimizing networks, chatbots and virtual assistants, predictive maintenance, and real-time anomaly detection systems, documented with success cases from Google, Telefónica, Nokia, IBM, Movistar, Vodafone, among others. The discussion compares the previous reactive model with the current proactive and autonomous model, evidencing quantifiable reductions. It is concluded that AI has moved from a futuristic promise to a decisive competitiveness factor, and strategic adoption is recommended, along with investment in research, development, and academia-industry partnerships to prepare young talent for the future of telecommunications.
