Abstract

Information pulse transmission over WDM systems is affected not only by chromatic dispersion but also by non-lineal effects when working at speeds of 10 Gbits/s or over. Such effects can alter transmitted signals and degrade the system quality if the appropriate control measures are no taken. The paper describes the most common non-lineal effects on these kinds of transmissions, their origin and measures to avoid or control them.
