Abstract

Nowadays, data centers play an important role in most fields of daily life and are an essential part of technological development. In them, information transmitted over data networks is stored and processed in a centralized way. This research focuses its main objective in collecting and describing in a summarized way its internal architecture according to the international standards in terms of infrastructure (ANSI/TIA, CENELEC, ISOMEC), and the different operation technologies according to its functions from the new concept of virtualization. A data center has its own particularities in terms of hardware and the typical applications that can coexist in them. Likewise, it can also be used as a powerful data processing center, cloud computing and the latest edge data centers to support the rise of Internet of Things and mobile technologies. The characteristics of Software Defined Data Centers and the possibility to virtualize different network functions (NFV) on them are also described.
