Digital City: Baracoa, connectivity scenarios and technologies for data transmission and the Internet

Abstract

ETECSA uses technologies POST and xDSL in its access networks that, despite having multiple advantages, have drawbacks that do not make them feasible for new scenarios, due to limitations in bandwidth and range. the article focuses on how to solve the existing problem to achieve access through the fixed broadband network to a greater number of clients and at the same time guarantee higher speeds and reach long distances? this work shows the different scenarios and technologies used in the technical attention area of the telecommunications center of the city of Baracoa, Guantánamo province, that have responded to the implementation strategy for the computerization of society, where one of the premises has been to create infrastructure puntuacapacities for connectivity and enhance internet access. Using for it the different modalities of access to the broadband like xDSL, FTTX, GPON, WIFI, etc; and the use of Metroethernet transport network technology.
