Abstract

Next generation networks use a method radically different from that of traditional networks. Signalling moves to an environment distinguished by ATM and IP rather than TDM. The Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN) based on TDM with SS7 is widely spread. The author explains the evolvement peculiarities of signalling systems and how the protocols used for the PSTN can be interconnected to other types of systems and networks through IP use.
