Abstract

Fog Computing (FC) networks are a distributed network paradigm that expands storage, computing and application services from cloud data centers to the place where data are generated and acted upon. The accelerated growth of theInternet of Things (IoT) applications and their quality of service demands have led to the development of the FC paradigm. A group of FC simulation tools has been developed, in this article, and after being analyzed, it was concluded that the IFogSim tool is the most suitable to work with Fog Computing scenarios. In this study, a Fog Computing networking simulation procedure with the IFogSim tool is proposed, given the scarce bibliography on the simulation of FC scenarios.
This procedure generalizes the main aspects to take into account when modeling FC scenarios for their precise simulation. Among the most important ones are the simulation of application modules and the definition of the application distribution policy. Finally, the procedure is applied to the simulation of a use case of IoT application on FC networks as a validation method.
