Abstract

Featuring the means of transmission and calculating radioelectric coverage are critical issues for an appropriate design of mobile and wireless systems. Within a traditional transmission/reception environment of a mobile system, there are three basic physical phenomena — reflection, diffraction and dispersion — which feature RF channel propagation and are accountable for three engineering problems: multipath propagation, shadowing and building penetration. The author explains the need to study these phenomena and their consequences when operating the system. In calculating radioelectric coverage, it is essential to use the transmission equation taking into consideration the basic degrading factors — noise and fading — as well as the empirical propagation models. OkumuraHata model is also described.
