IoT Platform to Monitor and Remotely Control Standalone Stations by Using Arduino+GSM
Abstract
This research proposes a platform to monitor and remotely control by using the GSM ―Global System for Mobile Communications― mobile network for standalone stations such those used in telecommunications, meteorology, drilling oil wells and others. This platform provides the proposed system with a great versatility and application. It has a hardware module that is installed in the targeted station, having the station controller based on the open hardware Arduino and its set of related-sensors and actuators, as well as a GSM expansion module for the communication with the control application. This paper also proposes the control application itself, as a second element, developed to be installed in Android devices and thus to enable the station remotely-operated monitoring and control from any tablet or mobile phone carried by supervisors. Information exchange between the administration devices and the station control module takes place through the short message service (SMS), common in GSM.
