Abstract

Cognitive Radio (CR) stands as a possible solution for the efficient use of the radio spectrum. The detection of the spectrum is the first step in the CR since it allows you to obtain knowledge about the environment that surrounds it. There are several spectrum detection techniques for CR applications, highlighting the detection of energy by its speed to obtain a result on the presence or absence of primary users. The introduction of the DTMB standard in the bands dedicated to television broadcasting in Cuba represents a greater number of channels available for the transmission of secondary users. However, there is no assessment of any detection technique that allows simultaneous use in that band. With this objective in the present investigation an evaluation of the performance of the energy detection of DTMB signals is made using the simulation with Matlab / Simulink. The results of the simulation show that the energy detector maintains good performance against high SNRs and previous knowledge of the channel noise variance. There is also a compromise between the probability of detection and the probability of false alarm and the choice of an effective detection threshold.
