This paper analyzes the evolution of mobile backhaul (MBH) which defnes the transport network that connects mobile base stations to radio network controllers, their gateways and servers. The traditional MBH technology used has been TDM, but the increase of the access capabilities of the radio networks, makes it insuffcient and little scalable, TDM is connection oriented and ineffcient in the use of the transmission capacities, packet transport networks is nonconnectionoriented are replacing traditional transport networks. It is evident how the packet transport networks using Ethernet and MPLS / IP allow to increase the MBH capacities and to make an effcient use of the transmission support used.
