Numbering and Identifiers, a Perspective Overview

Abstract

Since the beginning of telephony in the world, numbering has been an element inherent to the functionality of telephone operators. It was necessary to give identification to every current telephone terminal. Nowadays, the identifiers works as local codes and even the less known employed in the current cellular telephone, allow the communication and access to different services. The geographic areas of worldwide services and networks are categories taken into account to carry out the numbering plan that should rule from the imposition of new technologies of informatics and communications and the emerging of added value services. This article describes the concepts of numbering as much the traditional as the derived ones from the new services, as well as a wider identifiers projection towards the world.
