Abstract

Because of mobile terminals increase, wireless networks have an important place within global communications; that is why, security needs to be guaranteed. One of the major elements that provide a minimum level of security is a precise user control on network resources. This work addresses some issues when deciding which solution should be applied according to each institution needs. Different wireless network topologies, potential attacks and intrusion techniques, and some implementation problems of wireless network are described. In Addition, authentication protocols such as PAP, CHAP and EAP, that complement the various standards or protocols that are used to solve security problems like 802.1x, WPA and others, are presented. Finally, FreeRADIUS, a remote user authentication server, is analyzed.
