Abstract

ENUM or Electronic Numbering Mapping, developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force, has been considered the first convergence service between telephone networks and Internet. It is based on the association between telephone numbers and network resources or services within the Internet Domain Name System. ENUM is one of the solutions proposed by international standard organizations such as IETF, ITU, ETSI, etc. in order to achieve a Personal Communication Identifier. After introducing ENUM and its impact on networks and services, the paper briefly describes its gradual implementation in ETECSA.
