Abstract

The rapid growth of IP traffic has led to multiple technical arrangements to keep SDH technology alive, the most used technique since its high levels of scalability, efficiency, network management and protection mechanisms. This article defines ASON functionality as an addition to SDH architecture control level that implies the use of GMPLS protocols to make a connection-oriented network functions similarly to a non connection-oriented network.
